Kindergarten Prep Workshops ~ Ages 4 & 5

These Art Workshops are designed to help prepare children for Kindergarten by teaching them important skills while using visual arts. By doing these fun and creative art projects, students will practice and learn: Numbers, Shapes, Colours, ABC’s, Cutting, Creative Drawing and more.  We will also practice particle skills like sharing, organizing, communicating and making new friends!

Round as the Sun ~ Circles

January 12, 1-2pm

This workshop teaches kids how to draw and cut circles of all kinds. Using big, small, inside, outside, left and right, students will create a work of art incorporating circles!

Square like a Truck ~ Squares

January 19, 1-2pm

Vroom, vroom, vroom! Using vehicles as examples, students will explore and draw squares and rectangles.  Large, small, up, down, open, shut! Students will draw many squares to create a unique collage all about this tricky shape.

Forest of Trees ~ Triangles

January 26, 1-2pm

Let’s go hiking, through a forest of triangular trees! Triangles are one of the hardest shapes to draw, and in this workshop kids will draw and cut enough to fill a whole forest.  Free hand and assisted, these trees will create a beautiful triangular painting and collage.

Snip, Snip, Snip ~ Scissor Skills

February 2, 1-2pm

Let’s get cutting! Students will learn to hold scissors correctly and safely while cutting paper, felt, tissue and tinfoil to create a textured collage.  Some scissor experience required.

Red, Yellow, Blue ~ Colour Mixing

February 9, 1-2pm

Primary colours are the best! Colour mixing is fun, exciting, and kids will mix primary colours to create a beautiful rainbow, using just red, yellow and blue.  We will also add black to create shadow and white to create hi-lights.   

1, 2, 3, Collage ~ Counting

February 16, 1-2pm

How many crayons in the box? Students will count and organize buttons, sequins, feathers and more into numbered shapes to create a collage that is fun and interactive.

About Me ~ Drawing & Spelling

February 23, 1-2pm

What’s in a name? This class is all about spelling and writing names! Some names are short and some are long, this class will explore all the ones in our group. Kids will also draw a self-portrait to go with they’re fancy name!
